Shelby from West Virginia booked a hunt at V Bharre Ranch in search of a 40″ male Oryx and a gold medal Addax. Little did he know he would later smash the SCI world record Oryx with a crossbow. I personally had the pleasure of guiding this accomplished outdoorsman. I soon realized Shelby does not care about world records or awards for his accomplishments. He has several B & C whitetails he has never entered. What he does care for is a quality, challenging hunt. Rather it’s hunting mountain goats, grizzly’s or stalking Oryx with a crossbow, Shelby loves the woods. On day 2 of our hunt Shelby and I quietly stalked a group of Oryx. After several minutes, maybe an hour we selected the one we felt was best for the harvest. Over the next several minutes Shelby carefully judged the wind and yardage on this beast of a Oryx. Pushing the safety forward, taking a deep breathe the crossbow fired. The arrow found both lungs. “Great shot, absolutely perfect”, I said. Shelby made a 46 yard shot in a cross wind. Not bad….

The SCI world record crossbow is 93 6/8. Shelby’s Oryx Bull unofficially measures 97 2/8. Smashing the previous record. Super congrats Shelby. On another note Shelby also used a crossbow to harvest 2 gold medal Addax, a gold medal Blackbuck and a beautiful Kafue Lechwe with a handgun.

Way to go!

Texas Sable hunting

Paul an Outfitter from Billings, Montana bares the blazing Texas heat to seek a Sable. On June 10th the temperature gauge was reading 98 degrees in the shade. The Texas heat did not seem to affect Paul’s desire to hunt Sable. “It’s hot, blazing hot”, Paul says to the camera.
As all bowhunters know, it take patience to get these keen animals within 50 yards. Well after 2 hours of cooking Paul arrowed his Sable. Paul used his Bowtech to place a perfect 33 yards shot. Paul’s Sable scored #3 TGR. Truly a magnificent trophy!
Congrats Paul on your Sable and congrats on your #13 TGR Mouflon!

Clyde (Grandfather), Gary (Father) and Coby (Son) in June hunted Axis on V Bharre Ranch. Clyde (from California) wanted one thing and that was to see his grandson shoot his first antlered buck. Well June 8th, late in the evening Clyde received his wish. Several Axis bucks started to approach a watering hole. After several minutes guide Brad Draughon picked out a mature buck for Coby. Coby ease his 7mm 08 out the window. Trying to control his breathing Coby steady his sights on the big bucks shoulder. “Just squeeze the trigger”, Paul (Father) says. Not that easy for a 11 year old, shaking like a leaf on a breezy day. Fire blows out the barrel and young Coby connects with his Axis. I wish I could say this is a story book ending but unfortunately after many hours of tracking and many hours with a Blue Lacey dog the Axis has yet to be found. “Not to worry Coby”, says guide Brad Draughon. “We WILL find your buck!”

Gary and Clyde both harvested  beautiful Gold Medal Axis. So was the hunt a 100% success? I say yes! Anytime 3 generations can spend quality time hunting together it’s a success. And Coby……like Brad said, WE WILL FIND YOUR BUCK!

Keith Vanecek (Owner/Guide of Trophy Exotics) slams a .270 barnes triple shock into this giant Aoudad. Late afternoon on June 8th Keith was taking fellow guide Tristan Rusk fishing for some table fare. As they eased down to the lake Keith spotted this Aoudad about 250 yards away. “I noticed he had a limp”, Keith said. After careful observation both guides agreed the animal needed to be harvested. Keith took steady rest and fired. Keith connected with this 12 year old Aoudad @ 246 yards. After observing the animal Keith and Tristan discovered this Aoudad had a lame foot rendering it helpless against predators like Coyotes. This magnificent Aoudad had 13″ bases and measured 32″ long.

V Bharre Ranch is known for it record class Aoudad. So if you are looking for a Giant Aoudad like this….Book a hunt today!
